Horse Prairie Creek - MT. Even though Lewis was disappointed at failing to make friendly contact with an Indian he encountered, the scouting party continued upstream in search of a pass that would take them over the Continental Divide. As they approached the source of this creek on August 12, 1805, Lewis determined it to be "the most distant fountain of waters of the mighty Missouri."
